The following is a list of ready-to-go lessons that Mr. Buemann and Miss Rimmer would be happy to teach to your class. We can usually do so on relatively short notice. 3 Tips to Improve Your Presentations
This is a short 10 minute presentation to get students to think about ways to improve their presentations by focusing on what they have to say rather than all the glitter of constantly changing images and transitions. |

Your Digital Footprint
The purpose of this lesson is to help students manage their digital footprint or in other words what they find when they "Google" themselves. It looks at how information is gathered and shared on the internet. It will also give students a couple of strategies to manage their online personality. |
The Creative Commons:
Free Photos For Fabulous Features This 20 minute lesson will introduce students to the idea of the creative commons and give them some search strategies to help them find creative commons licensed material. |
Plagiarism: A Scourge on our Planet
This lesson will help define what plagiarism is by examining the 10 different ways that one can plagiarize. Students will be asked to also look at short case studies of plagiarism and then write their own paraphrased text while avoiding plagiarism. Finally, students will be given a list of tips and techniques to help them avoid plagiarism. |
Google Searching Tips
This lesson will introduce students to a few search tips to improve their ability to find information on the web and information on the page. It will also look at refining a search by website, by country and by reading level. Finally, it will highlight why it is important to verify the quality and credibility of websites and provide students with some simple strategies for this purpose. |
Research and Citation: Playing Hide and Seek
The purpose of this lesson is to help students find the information they need from the Internet to complete a reference whether it be MLA, APA, Chicago, Turabian or AMA. The focus for this lesson is on finding credible sources online through proper referencing. They will, however, be shown the tools they need to reference a variety of sources including books, videos and interviews among others. |

Evaluating Websites & Research Skills
This lessons provides a framework with some comedic relief to help students evaluate the quality of the websites they are visiting. It also goes over how to use the google advanced search feature. Finally, it will show students how to access a couple of the more useful online databases, namely EBSCO and GALE. |
